PASOLLI, Severino

Posted: October 31st, 2024

Severino Silvio Pasolli March 30, 1926 – October 25, 2024 After 98 wonderful years our dad, Severino (Sev) Pasolli, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on October 25, 2024, in the company of his family. We are heartbroken, but comforted knowing that he is reunited with our mom, his parents, brothers and sister.
Severino Silvio Pasolli was born in Hardieville on March 30, 1926 to Evaristo and Maria Pasolli. He was the first of his family to be born in Canada. The family moved to the Reid Hill District in 1931 and dad remained in the Champion area until moving to Lethbridge in 2021 to be closer to his children. He attended Reid Hill, Blusson and Harmony schools before graduating from grade 12 in Champion. He married our mom, Ruth Stewart, in 1953. Dad was an honest, hardworking community-minded man of many talents and interests. He was a coal miner, gravedigger, ice maker, farmer and grocery store owner, but his true calling was as a carpenter, building and renovating homes in Champion and area until he was well into his 80’s. He was a gifted athlete and was well-known for his baseball skills. He played for the Champion Red Sox every year from its inception in 1946 until the team disbanded in 1967, and then went on to coach Little League and Babe Ruth teams while his sons played. Dad taught us the importance of doing service to our community. He served on Champion town council, as well as the County of Vulcan Council. He was a member of the Champion Lions Club for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and volunteered on countless committees. After retirement dad turned his love for the history of his community into writing and published two books – Champion’s Black Gold (A History of Coal Mining in the Champion Area), and Memories of the Champion Red Sox Baseball Teams.
Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, our mom, Ruth Marilyn (Stewart) Pasolli, his parents, Evaristo and Maria Pasolli, brothers Livio Pasolli and Tino Pasolli, sister Edith Andre and her husband Jim.
Left to remember and honor his life are his six children, Karen (Charles) Guenther, Alan (Lorna) Pasolli, Sylvia Riedel, Jo-Anne (Rocky) Wilson, Brenda (Graham) McCredie, and Kevin Pasolli, along with his 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Elsie Pasolli and Agnese Pasolli and many nieces and nephews. We know he will be missed by his special friend Anna Volk and the countless others who were lucky enough to call him a friend.
Of all of the things dad accomplished in his life, we know he would say that his greatest construction project was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad, you’re safe at home.
A private family mass will be held. Please join us to celebrate his life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Champion Community Hall. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Champion Cemetery Maintenance Association (Box 99, Champion, AB,T0L 0R0 or etransfer vaage.beverly57@outlook.com), or the Champion Lions Club (Box 179, Champion, AB, T0L 0R0, or etransfer clionset@gmail.com).
