HOUGEN, Mary
Posted: December 6th, 2024 MARY ISABELLA HOUGEN June 16, 1932 – December 2, 2024 92 years old We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Isabella Hougen, beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, who left us peacefully on December 2nd in Bow Island, with her loved ones by her side.
Isabella was born June 16, 1932 in Foremost where she spent most of her life, until her health failed and she moved to Bow Island.
She was raised on the family farm, excelled in school and worked at the Royal Bank in Foremost until she married Magnus Hougen in 1952.
She raised her 3 daughters and embraced farm life. She cooked for the farm hands – often 3 meals a day during harvest! She delivered full meals into the field and took care of farm finances. She grew a terrific vegetable garden; she was a sewer, knitter, quilter, and baker (her famous recipes were impossible to replicate!) Isabella competed in many curling bonspiels, and golfed well into her 80’s. She and Dad enjoyed road trips to Kalispell; but, in particular, she loved the drive they took to Alaska.
After retirement, she and Magnus spent many winters in Arizona where she loved her flea market shopping, card games and golfing with Hougen clan. After Dad’s passing, she continued to travel South with Donna and John. She also looked forward to her bus trips and took many with her daughter Kris and other friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (John) Powell and Kris Hougen, son-in-law Willie Stang, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Arlene Stang and devoted husband of 55 years, Magnus.
The family is thankful for the excellent care Isabella received from the staff in the Bow Island lodge and extended care these last few years.
A private Family Service will be held in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bow Island Extended Care or the Foremost Lutheran Church where Isabella was an active member.
