Freda was born to Helen (née Klassen) and Jacob Friesen in Coaldale on December 11,1928. Freda and Jake met through the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church in Coaldale and married on March 4,1951. Their daughter Norma was born in 1952 and Richard followed in 1958. Freda’s unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father is the foundation upon which she’s built her life. She chose simple over flashy. But with a passionate spirit, a determined grit and a smile, Freda always cared for the needs of her family and put them first above all. She was kind, loving, funny, full of joy and showed us what can be accomplished with determination and persistence. She lived her life to the fullest, despite her many challenges. Her greatest joys and accomplishments were the love of her husband and the gift of being a Mom. She was a fantastic cook, gardener and baker. Every Christmas her family looked forward to her cookies, perogies and rice. She would always ensure they left with a care package of the perogies, mennonite sausage and goodies for the road. Her family have been blessed with so many fond memories of Freda and she will be missed by not only her family but and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Freda dearly loved her siblings. They each had a very special place in her heart and she would do anything for them. Family meant the world to Freda. Jake was at the center of her world for forty five years before his passing in August 2008. Shortly thereafter, Freda moved into Clearview Lodge in Taber where she continued to flourish in the family atmosphere of the lodge. Residents and staff became her extended family as she still maintained her all important sibling connections with letters, phone calls and parcels throughout the year. After some health setbacks, Freda moved to St. Terese Villas in Lethbridge where she remained until her passing.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Freda’s name may be made directly to Our Daily Bread Ministries Canada, PO Box 1622, Windson, Ontario N9A 6Z7 (www.ourdailybreadministries.ca).
Freda’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Clearview Lodge in Taber and St. Terese Villas in Lethbridge for the kind and loving care shown to Freda over the years.
