VERES, Fred
Posted: January 7th, 2025 FRED VERES 1932 – 2025 Fred was born at the Lethbridge Galt Hospital in 1932 to a very nice Slovakian couple, who would later make excellent grandparents. Fred, his brother John, and their dad cleared a homestead near Wimborne, Alberta. This is a hamlet famous for its one stop sign that no one paid any attention to. Fred worked hard and did very well at school, eventually graduating with honors from Olds College. Fred ran a farm and then worked in the oil patch as a water truck driver. For relaxation, he played baseball – his team even won a provincial championship.
Fred married Patricia Wonnacott, a young lady from Banff, who always had a smile for him. They worked together on the farm and had a son that dad named Joe.
Dad was always there, quietly observing and playing catch with me. After he retired from the rig, dad showed his support for my higher education by relocating so I could attend university, as well as continuing to spend time in shared hobbies like golf.
Dad was a huge supporter of Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre and the activities they offered. Dad was a kind and thoughtful man, who was easy to make friends with. Dad volunteered and helped several charities over the years. He moved into Legacy Lodge and enjoyed playing bingo.
Fred is survived by Patricia, his wife of 54 years, son Joe, daughter-in-law Jorica, and their amazing daughter Brooklynne. If you were a friend of Fred Veres, please think of honoring him with a donation to either the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta or the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Royal View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating.
