It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elsie May Green (Newick).
Elsie passed away peacefully at the age of 85 with her family at her side. Born and educated in Kelowna, BC. Elsie was the Kelowna Regatta Princess of the Lake. She was also an accomplished singer with many awards and accolades. She was often the lead performer in many musicals in BC. She also recorded an album with her favorite show tune songs. There was always music playing in her home.
She met her husband, Murray in the Okanagan and they were married on March 1st, 1958. Together, they had four children, Kevin (Debbie) Green, Stuart (Carmia) Green, Teri (Fred) Holt and Robyn Green. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Murray’s work with the Insurance industry took them to Alberta where they eventually settled in Medicine Hat in 1973. While in Medicine Hat, she was the Southern Alberta Supervisor for Weight Watchers, worked at Kabot Travel as an agent and tour guide, which led to the manager’s position with The Bay Travel.
In 1984, they returned to Vernon, BC. Elsie worked in Vernon at Whims and Wishes Kitchen store.
In 2022, Murray and Elsie returned again to Medicine Hat to be closer to family.
Elsie was preceded by her husband Murray in 2023; her parents, Bud and Margaret Newick; her brother, Wayne; and her in-laws, Alex and Aldea Green.
She loved spending time with her family and most recently with her new special friends at Meadowlands.
Elsie will be greatly missed and remembered for her sparkling personality lighting up every room she entered.
