ROBERT DEGAGNE
Posted: January 22nd, 2025ROBERT DEGAGNE In Loving Memory of Robert DeGagne It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Robert DeGagne. Robert passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 73, after a brief illness. All who knew him would describe him as a generous, witty, and loving man, who enjoyed the outdoors and cherished every moment spent with his wonderful family. Robert loved outdoor pursuits and had a remarkable skillset, from setting up winter camps to retrofitting a riding lawnmower. He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.
Robert was born on September 5, 1951, to Emile and Elizabeth (Keukens) DeGagne in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated from McCoy High School in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1970 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1976.
After graduation, Robert began his career at the Bank of Montreal, then transitioned to the Real Estate and Housing Department of the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Power, Northern Canada Power Commission (Northwest Territories), and finally as a senior auditor with the Canada Revenue Agency in Edmonton. Robert was honoured to receive the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his outstanding achievements in public service. He retired on May 14, 2021, and used his newfound freedom to enjoy the things he loved most family, friends, golf, fishing, and the outdoors.
Robert will be greatly missed by his wife, Cheryl; his four sons, Raymond (Jackie) DeGagne, Paul (Kristina) DeGagne, Dennis (Andrea Weber) DeGagne, and Gregory (Chelsea Ostonal) DeGagne; his six grandchildren; his brother, Theo (Douglas Ozier) DeGagné; his two sisters, Valerie DeGagne and Carmel (Michael) Love; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Maureen DeGagné who passed away in 1980, his father, Emile DeGagne, who passed away in 1970; and his mother, Elizabeth DeGagne, who passed away in 2009.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 13 Brower Dr, Sherwood Park, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon gathering in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation: https://www.stollerykids.com
