Then after she graduated Carolyn and Binky moved to Calgary. Carolyn began her post- secondary education journey at SAIT where she received a diploma in accounting. Then Carolyn’s employment began with Ninastako Cultural Center as well as Kainai Industries where she was working at two jobs while she continued with her post-secondary education when she started attending The University of Lethbridge to pursue her undergraduate degree in Education. After completing her Bachelor of Education, she began her long extensive career in Education. Carolyn began her career as a teacher for Kainai Board of Education at the new Lavern Elementary School in the early 90’s. Then after a few years of teaching she decided to further her education at Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington U.S.A. where she received her graduate degree in Education Leadership. After receiving her Masters she became principal of the Lavern Elementary School. After the passing of her beloved husband, Carolyn moved to Saipoyi Community School, where she was the associate principal, until her retirement from her long career with KBE in 2023.
Carolyn was a very devoted mother where her children, Sandy, Nancy and A.J, were her pride and joy, as well as her precious grandchildren.
Carolyn was very dedicated to our Blackfoot ways of Knowing and Culture. At a very young age she participated in the dance troupe along with her cousins from her dad’s side of the family which was led by Harry Shade. Her dedication to culture was evident when she transferred in as a member of the Maoto’kiiksi (Buffalo Woman’s Society). She received a headdress in a transfer ceremony at the Saipoyi Community School on February 27, 2018.
Carolyn was an avid sports fan where she encouraged and supported her children to do well in sports.
Carolyn was very inspirational in her supportive, caring, loving and sometimes humorous way of communicating with all whom she crossed paths with.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, past colleagues, all her friends and everyone that she associated with.
