GARRY HESCH 1956 ~ 2025
We lost our beloved Garry on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Garry was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives he touched.
Garry was born the youngest of four children and spent his formative years on the family farm north of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Garry married his high school sweetheart, Michelle, on October 16th, 1976, and was blessed with one daughter, Karly.
A jack-of-all-trades, Garry worked in many careers throughout his lifetime. His background in construction served as the foundation for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone, for any project, at any time. Early in his career, Garry studied drafting technology at Lethbridge College, later transitioning into the oil industry in Calgary and Medicine Hat. His passion for learning led him to study business at Medicine Hat College, followed by a successful career as a partner at Cypress Insurance. Thirteen years ago, Garry and Michelle retired to pursue their passion for travel. This led them on many memorable adventures in North America, Central America, Europe, and Oceania, collecting memories and stories that they treasured and would share often. Notable highlights include motoring around Canada, winters spent in Mexico, and their recent trip to visit Kary and Nik in Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
Garry dedicated countless hours to the community, coaching Michelle’s ball team and Karly’s ringette team. He loved a good game of golf with great friends, camping, boating, fishing, and skiing, especially for many memorable years at the Fernie cabin. Those who knew Garry will remember him for his love of a great Caesar, a thrilling game of cribbage, and his favourite pastime, spending time with family and friends.
Garry’s life is celebrated by his wife of 48 years, Michelle Hesch (nee Tetrault); daughter, Karly Hesch (Nik Dean); brother, Rick Hesch (Carole Wickenheiser); sister, Dianne (Brian) VanSandt; sister-in-law, Lise Tetrault (Linda Mulhall); brothers-in-law, Guy (Donna) Tetrault, Rob (Betty) Tetrault, Alain (Gail) Tetrault, Denis (Marie) Tetrault, Don (Brenda) Tetrault, as well as dear friends, relatives, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and Hazel (nee Hermanson) Hesch; his sister, Sharon (Peter) Leggett; his mother and father-in-law, Yvon and Laurette (nee Roy) Tetrault, as well as grandparents, relatives, and friends.
We ask that you remember Garry not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
