GERALD WISE 1935 ~ 2025 Gerald Wise, beloved friend to all he met passed away unexpectedly in Calgary, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the age of 90 years old. Jerry was born on April 8, 1935, to Michael and Leah Wise, in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, and was the younger brother of Jack Wise. Jerry lived a gentle, joyful life filled with rhythm and connection to all he met. He was a man who found meaning in small rituals such as his morning coffee, his favourite tune, or the satisfying crack of a bowling ball down a polished lane. Jerry loved words and delighted in seeing them written down, especially when they carried the shape of a memory or moment worth holding. Jerry’s unique stories, phrases and expressions will always be remembered in our hearts. Among the most meaningful presences in Jerry’s life was his mom and dad, his brother Jack Wise and his sister-in-law Evelyn Wise, as well as his extended family Sylvia Marshall and Blaine, Matthew, and Parker Donaldson whose love and support were a constant light in his later years. Jerry also shared a deep bond with Cleo, who opened her home and heart to Jerry offering him comfort and support over many years. Jerrys second family was all those at Vecova, who over many years cared and loved him and brought him a sense of belonging and community. Jerry was also part of the Bethtzedec congregation in Calgary, and enjoyed attending the synagogue and celebrating Jewish High Holidays.
Jerry will be laid to rest beside his mom and dad, on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat with Rabbi Russell Jayne officiating.
