It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas Frank Clements, beloved husband, father, and friend, who departed this life in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 81.Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, Doug was the youngest son of Virginia Isabella Clements and Ralph Seymour Clements. He grew up alongside his older brother, Donald Ralph Clements, and attended Sussex Composite High School, where his passion for sports and service shone brightly. A dedicated member of the school cadet corps, Doug achieved the rank of Warrant Officer and attended summer cadet camp in Aldershot, Nova Scotia.Doug’s journey into adulthood began with hard work and generosity earning wages on a local farm and delivering goods for LANES Bakery, always contributing to his family. Inspired by his brother’s naval service, Doug joined the Canadian Armed Forces at just 17, determined to serve in the Canadian Provost Corps (Military Police). His persistence paid off, and he began basic training at CFB Borden on October 25, 1961. He was later posted to CFB Calgary and served with distinction, including a six-month deployment to Cyprus and a specialized role in the Special Investigation Unit in Germany.In 1962, Doug met the love of his life, Elizabeth, on a blind date at the YWCA in Calgary. Their bond was instant and enduring proposing just 2 weeks later. They married on May 15, 1965, and shared 57 wonderful years together until Elizabeth’s passing from cancer in 2022. Their life together took them across Canada and Europe, and they were blessed with four sons: Christopher, Danny, Robbie, and Nicholas each a source of immense pride for Doug.After leaving the military to start a family, Doug transitioned into civilian life with Equifax and later found his calling as an insurance adjuster with Brouwer Claims Canada. He served in this role until his retirement in 2014.Doug will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his integrity, and his quiet strength. He was a man of principle, generosity, and deep love for those around him.He is survived by his sons, grandson Christopher, and extended family. Doug’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the values he instilled.A celebration of life will be scheduled later in his honor.
