DAMIANO DALLA LONGA
Posted: August 23rd, 2025 1936 – DAMIANO DALLA LONGA – 2025 It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and Nonno, Damiano Dalla Longa, who passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025 at the age of 88 years. He would have celebrated his 89th birthday on August 29, just 10 days later. Damiano was predeceased by his wife, Silvana Dalla Longa; parents, Olivo and Caterina Dalla Longa; brothers, Reno, Gianni, Gervasio, as well as his sister, Anna Maria. His brother, Giuseppe continues to live in Medicine Hat and brothers, Luigi, Francesco, Franco and Valeriano live in Italy along with his sister, Marta and their families.
Born in San Vito di Valdobbiadene, Damiano immigrated to Canada in 1960 with determination and hope for a better future. In 1961, he was joined by the love of his life, Silvana, and together they built a life grounded in love, resilience, and hard work.
As a young man in Italy, he first learned the craft of furniture making, developing the skill and creativity that would shape much of his life. When he came to Canada, he worked as a skilled bricklayer, pouring his heart and craftsmanship into countless buildings and creative projects throughout the city and into Saskatchewan. Always handy and creative, he built beautiful cabinets and created stunning outdoor brick living spaces, where family and friends gathered to enjoy the warmth of a fire throughout many seasons. His artistry lives on in every piece he touched, and he enjoyed helping his children repair their homes, begin a new building project and brick their living spaces. He was always eager to lend his time and craftsmanship to those he loved.
Beyond his work, his greatest pride was his family. Together with Silvana, they raised two daughters, Anna and Rosa, and later welcomed sons-in-law, Tim Schottner and Tracy Zubrecki into the family. Their joy grew with the arrival of their three grandchildren Zachary, Mikala, and Francesca who became the absolute light of his life. He was extremely proud of them, never missing a ball game, soccer match, or hockey game, always cheering proudly from the stands. His love and encouragement shaped their lives, just as it had with his daughters. In time, that pride grew even more as the family expanded, and he happily welcomed Stephanie (Zachary), Randon (Mikala), and Braden (Francesca), embracing each of them with the same warmth and love.
Losing Silvana ten years ago was the hardest moment of his life, but he faced it with courage, determination, and purpose. Though deeply missing the love of his life, he chose to live fully, cherishing every moment with his family and continuing to make the best of each day.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – baking homemade bread and proudly sharing it with everyone, making wine and passing his craft on to his son-in-law, tending his massive garden, and sharing the bounty with neighbors. Just last year, he grew thirteen zucchini plants, ensuring that no one nearby went without fresh vegetables. The absence of a garden this year weighed on him deeply, a reflection of how much joy it had always brought him.
Damiano will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his generosity and kindness, his joy for life, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family. His memory and legacy live on in the many lives he touched and the traditions he passed down.
