HELEN TURNER
Posted: October 23rd, 2025 1928 – HELEN TURNER – 2025 It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Turner announce her passing on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the age 96 years.
Mom leaves to cherish her memory three children, Gary and Lorna Turner, Doug and Elaine Turner, Audrey and Calvin Becker; one daughter-in-law, Wendy Turner; seven grandchildren, Jason, Steve (Sandra), Justin (Jenn), Kelley (Josh), Brandon (Keltie), Sonja (Ryan), Brittney (Ryan); seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Joshua; daughter, Shirley; son, Jim; as well as nine siblings and their spouses.
Helen was born on November 21, 1928, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She was raised on the farm near Hilda where she attended school. Helen met Joshua Turner and they were married on December 31st, 1946. Together they made their home on the farm, west of Hilda. Farm life was not easy back in those days, however there was always time to go fishing at the river. In 1969, they retired and moved to Medicine Hat. Mom, who was never idle, grew a large garden and kept her yard and house immaculate. Having learned how to fix numerous things over the years she never waited for help, tackling many projects herself. Mom was a wonderful cook, most especially her buns, cookies, apple squares, and rice pudding. Mom was always ready to lend a helping hand to her children. Her grandchildren have many stories of playing cards, sneaking frozen cookies and spending time at grandmas. Mom enjoyed fishing, bowling, and card games with her siblings. She also kept busy knitting, crocheting and sewing. During the winter when there was no outside work to be done, watching curling, and doing puzzles occupied her time. She loved Sunday morning coffees with family where the Blue Jays, politics, weather and updates on all the family, was the topic of conversation. The many memories will live on, and she will be dearly missed.
