Douglas Wayne Haggart, born March 16, 1954, in North Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. He was the beloved son of Ken and Bernice (nee Robinson) Haggart and the eldest of three children. He was predeceased by his brother, Jeffery Haggart, his mother, and his father.
Doug is survived by his aunts, Marilyn (Haggart) of Quebec, Bev, and Delta (nee Robinson) along with their families of Ontario. He leaves behind his sister, Karen (Steve) Lecappelain and his nieces and nephew, Amy, Lisa, Curtis, and Jenna along with their families of Ontario. His daughter, Shannon (Mason) Eastveld and his three cherished grandchildren, Tenchi, Echo, and Sierra of Alberta, as well as his son, Steven Rode, of Alberta, also honour his memory.
A proud Canadian and Veteran, Doug grew up playing hockey, participating in Army Cadets, and joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 18. His military career took him around the world, including a peacekeeping mission in Romania in the 70s and deployment to Greenland. After returning to Canada, he served at CFAD before retiring from active duty. Doug then moved to Calgary, where he met Carolyn, and together they embarked on a life of adventure across Canada.
In 2001, Doug settled in Walsh, Alberta, where he dedicated his final years to serving at CFB Suffield for DND until his retirement in 2022. An avid lover of nature, he enjoyed camping, fishing at dawn, and a passion for renovating homes having owned and transformed four houses across the country, mostly by himself, with his own hands and heart.
In his retirement, Doug moved to Medicine Hat, where he cherished his role as a grandfather. Whether celebrating holidays, supporting his grandchildren’s Air Cadet pursuits, or simply watching hockey and football together, Doug was always present with love and encouragement.
Doug was a man of service, kindness, and unwavering support. A pillar of his family, community, and country, his willingness to lend a helping hand and his dedication to others will be deeply missed. His legacy of love, service, and community will never be forgotten.
