Posted: January 17th, 2026

FERGUSON SUZANNE “SUSAN” ROBERTA FERGUSON, of Lethbridge, the beloved wife of the late Harold Ferguson, passed away in St. Michael’s Health Centre – Long Term Care on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at the age of 101 years.
Susan was born in Fenn Alberta on January 25, 1924, the fifth child of eight born to Charles and Anne-Marie Wilfort. Susan grew up on the family farm, milking cows starting at the young age of eight and riding horseback to attend school. She was a devoted daughter and sister within her close-knit family.
As an independent young adult, Susan worked at a bank and enjoyed the leisure activities of playing baseball and ice skating. In 1957, she met and married her husband Harold and moved to the town of Innisfree, where Harold ran the Innisfree Meat Market. Together, fulfilling her dream of having a family, they raised their five children.
Susan had a very strong faith in God. She was a very devoted wife and mother as well as an active member of the Catholic Women’s League and the Legion. Her love and passion for children inspired her to babysit in her home. She opened a Day Home when the family moved to Lethbridge in 1979. She continued to babysit and lovingly care for children until grandchildren began to arrive on the scene.
Grandma Susan’s was a favorite place for the grandkids to visit and she devoted many hours to joyfully looking after grandkids whenever she was needed. She was always quick to lend a helping hand to others and opened her home in her ‘grandmother’ years to adults who had mental health needs. It was also at this time that she joined the church choir and volunteered to sing at funerals.
Susan loved her children and her grandchildren deeply and said many prayers and rosaries for them. She was a shining example of great love and faith. She was a constant source of support, her encouragement and generosity inspiring her family to follow their passions and create careers with lasting impact.
At the age of 85, Susan moved to Sunrise Village, an assisted living facility. In 2018, she moved to long term care. Susan was well taken care of by her devoted children and the wonderful staff at St. Michaels Health Centre.
Susan loved to sing! She could frequently be heard singing many songs by heart to staff and fellow residents.
Susan leaves to mourn her loss, her sister Sister Jeanne Wilfort of Ste Sophie, Quebec. She leaves to mourn her five children: Len (Heather) Ferguson of Lethbridge and their kids Steven and Kara (Matthew) Mah and great grandkids Annalise and Hayden; Mary-Anne (Noel) Going and their kids Ryan (Alanna), Alissa (Matteus) and Shaelynn (Casey); Joanne Fletcher and her children Shaniah (Brett) Tamayose, Jessica, Clayton; John (Dawna) Ferguson and son Jesse (Teerin); Marguerite (Mark Barber) Ferguson and their daughter Sophia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Susan was predeceased by her parents Charles and Anne-Marie Wilfort, her siblings: infant Charles (1916), Charlotte (1988), John (1996), Carlos (1999), Paul (2008), and Marie-Cecile (2016); her husband Harold (1993) and her stepson Brian (2005).
The family would like to send out a heartfelt gratitude to all of the individuals who provided Susan with such excellent care in her later years of life beginning at Sunrise Village to Sunny South in Coaldale to St. Michael’s Health Care Centre.
