DANIEL GENN April 23, 1933 ~ January 14, 2026
Daniel Anthony Genn, beloved husband of the late Alida Genn, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the age of 92 years.
Left to cherish Dan’s memory are his children, Steven Genn, Bill Genn, Jeff Genn and Jan Genn and their families; step-children, Rene (Tracey) Levasseur, Ron Levasseur and Jim Levasseur and their families; sister, Gail (Bob) Chambers and their family and his brother Bud’s family. He will also be sadly missed by his niece, Rachelle (Keith) Lawrence and her family. Dan was pre-deceased by his wife, Alida in 2021; his parents and his brother, Norman ‘Bud’.
Daniel Genn, known fondly as Dan, was born on April 23, 1933, in Quebec City to Harold and Christine Genn and was raised in the Ottawa area. He married his beloved wife, Alida (nee Sincennes) on December 15, 1979, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dan was a Chartered Accountant with a Master’s degree in Business. His career included roles as Controller for B A Bank Note and later as Manager of the Infrastructure Program in British Columbia for the Federal Department of Western Economic Diversification, allowing him to live and work across much of Canada.
Dan was quite the character. He was a kind and loving soul who liked to joke, was very mischievous and touched the hearts of everyone he met no matter how old they were. He served on numerous committees and boards and was always willing to help where needed. Dan and Alida once owned racing horses and loved spending time at the track watching his ponies do their thing. He and Alida spent many winters in Palm Springs to get away from the cold Canadian winters.
An accomplished athlete in his youth having won many awards, Dan remained a devoted sports fan and an avid golfer for many years, hanging up his clubs at the age of 89. He enjoyed watching many sporting events on TV and had his favourite teams that he was faithful to. Dan was a loyal member of the Connaught golf club for many years and the challenge over the years was who was going to be able to beat Uncle Dan.
He will be remembered for his gentle soul, warm laughter and the lasting joy he brought to all who knew him.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on 5 West who cared for Dan after being hospitalized and to all the wonderful caregivers that have cared for him since he moved into Good Samaritans; you truly are angels. He had a special place in his heart for each one of you.
