MARY FLEMING
Posted: February 3rd, 2026 1936 – MARY FLEMING – 2026 Mary Loretta Fleming passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at the Bow Island Health Centre, at the age of 89 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Kim, Barry (Connie) and David (Esther); her grandchildren, Denver (Andrea), Matthew and Tyler (Dana);as well as her great-grandchildren, Noah, Corah and Grady. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerry; her parents, Lloyd Fleming and Helen McNamee; and her brother, John Fleming. Mary was born on October 16,1936 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan. Mary and Gerry were raised, schooled and then married (1955) in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. While in Maple Creek, they raised purebred cattle and were involved in the community. In 1959, they moved to Lethbridge to work with Gerry’s parents who operated Christensen Fleming Funeral Home. In 1967, wanting to raise the children in the country, they made the decision to buy a farm in Bow Island, their Centennial Project. They established a feedlot and grew silage, specialty crops of corn and beans. Mary’s life evolved around being a mom, homemaker, gardener and an active part of the farm. She was a member of the original committee of the 4H Achievement Day and Sale, Bean Pot Rodeo and Festival, Farms Market and the Pivot Country Fair. She was active in the local Chamber of Commerce, Town of Bow Island Tourism Group, the United Church Choir, and the Golf Club. In 1998, they moved to Rainier, AB, to farm with Kim and Barry. In June 2006, they retired back to Bow Island. Mary enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking, sewing and crafts. She will always be remembered for her kindness helping others whenever needed. Cremation will be followed by a private family time of remembrance. A special thank you to the staff at Bow Island Health Centre and Pleasant View Lodge for the wonderful care they gave Mary.
