LOVERNE MAPSTONE July 20, 1937 ~ January 31, 2026
It is with a heavy heart that Raymond announces the passing of his loving wife, Loverne Caroline Mapstone (nee Wardberg). She passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Along with Raymond, her beloved husband of 67 years, Loverne’s memory will be forever cherished by their two daughters, Caroline (Dean) Neitz and their two daughters, Amanda (Keegan) and Raeann (Chris); Laurel Eremenko and her three children, Sandra, Brett (Nikol) and Desirae (Dan); six great-grandchildren, Saylem, Cohen, Bowen, Blaire, Aubrey and Lorenzo; two brothers, LeRoy and Lyle Wardberg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Asmund ‘Ole’ and Esther Wardberg; son-in-law, Elmer Benson; great-grandson, Karson Eremenko; two sisters, Alice Wardberg and Velma Wardberg (Schmaltz) as well as her brother, Alfred (Josephine) Wardberg.
Loverne was born in Maple Creek, SK., on July 20, 1937. The family lived near Vidora, SK., later moving to the farm north of Robsart, SK.
She was a member of the Oxarat Sewing Circle and was involved with the Figure Skating Club, Hall Board and Ceramic Club. She led 4-H clothing for over 15 years and was General Leader of the Robsart Club as well as an Avon Rep for many years. Loverne was very talented and creative, sewing countless wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and skating costumes. She also made wedding bouquets, various floral pieces and decorated many wedding cakes, built furniture pieces and did home renovations.
Ray and Loverne moved to Dunmore in the fall of 1991 where they resided until moving to Medicine Hat in September of 2018.
A Celebration of Loverne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.
