Elsie Brassard 1924 – 2026 Elsie Brassard of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at Good Samaritans Park Meadows, with her family surrounding her. She was 101 years old.
Born on October 25, 1924, Elsie lived a long and meaningful life defined by resilience, service, and devotion to her family. During the Second World War, she proudly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Halifax, where she contributed to the war effort with dedication and strength.
In 1946, Elsie married the love of her life, Eugene “Bud” Brassard. Together they made their home in Lethbridge, raising their family and building a life rooted in hard work and community.
In 1970, Elsie opened Elsie’s Confectionary, a small business she operated for ten years and remembered fondly for the friendships and connections it brought her. In 1981, Elsie and Bud moved to Magrath, where they ran the family billiards business until their retirement in 2001. Their work there became a gathering place for many, and Elsie’s warmth and steady presence were felt by all who knew her.
Elsie is lovingly remembered by her four children:
Gladys Novak of Madison, Wisconsin
Wayne (Elizabeth) of Calgary
Dale of Calgary
Trevor (Nancy) of Lethbridge
She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
In her younger years, Elsie loved to bowl and cherished the friendships she made through the sport. She enjoyed going to the horse races, and Elsie loved to play bingo even after she had lost her sight – a true reflection of her determination, optimism, and love of staying connected with others.
Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband Bud; her parents, Richard and Emilie; three brothers; and two sisters.
Throughout her long life, Elsie remained spirited, independent, and deeply proud of her family.
The family extends a special thank‑you to Elsie’s dear friend Sherri for her unwavering friendship and support. They also wish to express heartfelt gratitude to all of Elsie’s caregivers over the years, including Lethbridge Family Services and the Good Samaritans at Park Meadows, for their kindness, compassion, and dedicated care.
Elsie’s legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the countless lives she touched.
A private family service will be held for Elsie.
