WILSON, Richard “Rick”

Posted: February 14th, 2026

WILSON Richard (Rick) Allen Wilson passed away suddenly on January 13, 2026 at the age of 67.
Born in Lethbridge in 1958, Rick will be remembered as thoughtful, curious and kind. His love of nature, the outdoors, and his passion for hunting and fishing were all in keeping with his love of solitude and peacefulness.
Rick attended both Catholic Central High School and the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) in Lethbridge. After secondary school, he worked at the Wilson Ranch where his love of ranching was born. His work experience was varied and included seismic, mechanics, the oil fields, building and bridge construction. He proudly participated as a crew member responsible for the clean up after the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle.
His time farming on the Wilson Ranch in Helmville, MT drove his love for Montana and all it offered him. It was where Rick most felt at home and where he could pursue his passions of hunting, fishing, hiking, metal detecting and skiing. Always curious, Rick was an avid reader and was deeply interested in history and science. In his earlier years, he participated in lacrosse, hockey and basketball. Rick championed and worked for the very first indoor ice rink in Missoula and loved the idea of introducing the hockey experience to the children of the area.
Rick possessed a mischievous and playful sense of humour, loved his family deeply, had a strong sense of justice, and held sentimental affection to his friends and family.
Rick is survived by his son, Kelly Wilson; his father, Robert D. Wilson; brothers and sisters; Jim Wilson, Jane Wilson (Trevor Thredgold), Kathie Madden, Rob Wilson, and Patti Blackstaffe (Walter) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Wilson and many aunts and uncles.
Rick was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held:
Date: February 21 Time: 1-3pm Moose Lodge 63 Daytona Loop Milltown, Montana
