CRAWFORD June 18, 1940 – March 6, 2026 With sadness, we announce the passing of ROY CHARLES CRAWFORD, who passed away in the early morning of Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 85.
Roy was born on June 18, 1940, in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the Galt Hospital. He grew up in Lang Bay near Powell River, BC, and eventually settled in Lethbridge, AB, where he built a life rooted in family, friendship, and a career with the City Fire Department.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice Crawford; his son Greg (Marlene) Crawford, and their children Jaden and Rylan; and his daughter Cherene Crawford (Mike Perdue). Roy was predeceased by his parents; and by his sister Goldie Lynn and her husband Fred Watmough.
Roy served the Lethbridge Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as a Platoon Chief. Before joining the department, he held many different jobs, including logging, milk delivery, and even a side venture in a cement business with close friends. He took great pride in his career as a firefighter and valued the many lifelong friendships formed during those years.
Roy married his wife and best friend, Beatrice, on May 9, 1964. After Bea suffered a stroke in 2013, Roy devoted himself to caring for her and remained by her side every day until his passing. Caring for others was simply part of who he was.
He took great pride in his yard and enjoyed entertaining friends and family with home-cooked meals. As a family, summers were often spent in Powell River and camping in Beaver Mines, while winters meant skiing and snowmobiling trips to Whitefish and the Crowsnest Pass. Roy and Bea were also longtime members of the Picture Butte Golf Club, where they spent many of their retirement years enjoying the game and the community around it.
Roy had a heart of gold, with just a touch of stubbornness. He was fortunate to have many wonderful friends, and the family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who visited, called, and stayed in touch with him over the years – especially since reaching out first was never quite in his wheelhouse.
At Roy’s request, there will be no formal memorial service at this time. A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca)
