LEFFINGWELL, Evelyn
Posted: April 28th, 2026 LEFFINGWELL 1935-2026 It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to mom, EVELYN LEFFINGWELL on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Evelyn was born in Medicine Hat but moved to Lethbridge when she was a young girl. She was the youngest daughter of George and Elsie Deimuth and siblings: Jack, Bob, and Phyllis.
My mom lived her life to the fullest. She married my dad, Frank, in early 1950, and together they became the dynamic duo. They did everything together from camping, fishing and spending time with family. They took a great interest in rifle shooting and spent many years hunting along with my Grandpa Harry. It’s here where their love for shooting targets came in effect and they formed the Lethbridge Marksmen. Together with great friends, they travelled to many various competitions and spent many hours at the Lethbridge Fish and Game Range. Dad and Mom taught junior shooters the importance of safe handling of firearms and had many years of watching them succeed. They both became Canadian champions in small bore several times, and both were inducted into the Lethbridge Hall of Fame for their accomplishments.
Mom worked for many years at Richardson Securities. She never forgot a client and often could even recite their account number years after she retired.
When my dad suddenly passed away at age 60, Mom was lost but we convinced her to become a volunteer at Regional Hospital, and from this, she became a professional!
There wasn’t a bingo, casino or golf tournament that she didn’t work at. She supported many organizations such as Westwind Gymnastics Club and LTRA, St. Michael’s, and the Lethbridge Air Show. However, her love with Lethbridge Fish and Game remained and as such, was awarded a Lifetime Membership Award.
We were so blessed that members of the Fish and Game started a Memorial Shoot for my dad. Each year, Mom was able to meet all her friends and continue her love of shooting. She often beat most of the men.
After Dad passed, Mom and Aunty Phyl became glued at the hip and did everything together. They spent many hours volunteering at all different events.
Mom and I saw the real Elvis at the Las Vegas International Hotel in 1969 and she was the best fan after that. She had the memorabilia all over her house to prove it, and a VHS for every movie.
Mom loved people but loved her family above everything else. From family dinners and spending holidays together, there was always a special bond. But her biggest love were her granddaughters, Robyn and Randi. We spent many hours together with special trips to remember. From our long car rides to Minnesota, warm sun in Hawaii and Disneyland, and numerous trips to Las Vegas with many Elvis shows!!!
Mom never missed any soccer games, dance competitions and gymnastic events and was definitely their biggest fan of all.
She loved the Lethbridge Hurricanes!! And Tyler Wong! Our hockey family became such a huge part of her life and she always looked forward to every game.
We were lucky that she was able to spend her last years at Cedar Creek Adaptacare where the staff was amazing and she loved everyone of them. She made many friends there and kept them close to her heart.
Special thanks to everyone at Cedar Creek for your wonderful care, and Dr. S DeWalle for looking after her all these years. Thank you to Cornerstone for taking care of mom; she loved the Zentner family.
At Evelyn’s request, there will be no formal funeral. At a later date, we hope to place a plaque at the memorial rock with my dad at the Lethbridge Fish and Game Range.
Mom always said that you should smile at a stranger because you never know when they will become your friend. And she had the best smile!!
We love you and will miss you everyday!
Lynda, Bob, Robyn and Randi Baraniecki
