GYULAI, Judy
Posted: May 2nd, 2026 JUDY GYULAI 1945 ~ 2026 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother Judy Izora Gyulai. Judy passed away peacefully and was surrounded by her family at the Taber Health Centre on April 25, 2026 at the age of 80, just a few days shy of her 81st birthday.
Besides her beloved husband Daniel Gyulai, she is survived by her daughter Deanna Gillis (Kenn); her grandchildren Ainsley and Riley. Judy is predeceased by her parents Albert and Rosalie Cheesman as well as her son, Ronald.
Judy met the love of her life, Dan on his 21st birthday, and they were married on July 18, 1964. She was blessed with two children: Ronald and Deanna. During their life together, they enjoyed spending their time with family, travelling, spending time in the mountains, golfing, and attending hockey games, and many Blue Jays games in Toronto.
Judy was born on April 29, 1945 in Lethbridge to Albert and Rosalie Cheesman. Judy graduated from Winston Churchill High School and later attended the Lethbridge Community College obtaining a Business Administration degree and received many academic awards and achievements. Judy then entered the workforce where she enjoyed managing the Medicine Hat Hospital gift shop, Mariposa clothing store, and selling jewelry at various stores.
While her daughter, Deanna was growing up, Judy was very involved as a Master Official with competitive swimming, she was always seen supporting her family in the stands at practices and volunteering on the deck at meets. Her enjoyment of attending her family’s sporting events continued with her grandchildren, as she was there in the stands whether it was practice or games, even if they were out of town. Judy and Dan were known to return from a beach vacation and that same day they would drive north for a tournament in the coldest rink you’ve ever been in. Judy enjoyed giving her time to various organizations such as, The Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, CGIT, and attending many Masonic social events with Dan. Judy and Dan enjoyed travelling as they saw many parts of Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Judy and Dan would always find a way for their family to join them on their adventures, whether it was a quick trip to BC or a vacation to Hawaii, Disney World, or Las Vegas. They always wanted to find a way to make memories and spend time with their family. For the last 10 years they spent lots of time in their second home in Panorama, BC, where they enjoyed the mountains, sunshine, and lake life.
Judy touched the lives of many people and will be dearly missed. A small memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada in her name.
