HARVEY FREY August 15, 1942 ~ April 28, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey “Jack” Frey on April 28, 2026, at the age of 83 years. Born in Prelate on August 15, 1942, to George and Cecilia Frey, Harvey grew up on the family farm and in BC during his younger years. Eventually they settled in Medicine Hat in 1961, where he would build his life and call home for over six decades.
Harvey was a man of drive and determination. He channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into the trucking business and later the power tong industry, running his own operation from 1979 to 1985. He then spent 23 years from 1985 to 2008 as a cab driver with Deluxe Central, a role that suited his friendly nature and love of good conversation perfectly.
When he wasn’t working, Harvey was most at home outdoors or surrounded by family. He loved camping, landscaping and woodworking, and spent many enjoyable years on the curling ice. But perhaps nothing brought him more joy or more bragging rights than the horseshoe pit at family reunions, where his tournament wins became cherished family legend. Above all, Harvey lived for time with the people he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianna; children, Lori (Daryl), Ryan (Treslie), Kimberlee (Tom) and grandchildren, Jacob, Madison and Dane. Harvey is survived by his brother, Gary Frey (Dorothy) and a sister, Elaine (Dennis) Baumgarten as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Cecilia Frey as well as a sister, Georgina Velcoff.
Harvey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, stories and competitive spirit will not soon be forgotten. Relatives and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate a life well lived…. Rest easy, Dad.
The funeral mass celebrating Harvey’s life will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 238 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Roque Pereira Celebrant. A time of fellowship will follow in the Parish Hall. Harvey’s funeral mass will be live streamed.
