STEELE Lance

LANCE STEELE was born in Nanton, Alberta in 1931, the eldest of three boys and spent his first 11 years on the family ranch in the Basin Valley. After which, the Steele family moved to Silverton, B.C. where Lance completed high school. Following a move to Calgary to attend SAIT, Lance met and married his “kindred spirit” Joan Weiers and embarked on a successful 37 year career at TransAlta Utilities (formerly Calgary Power) as a Registered Engineering Technologist.
Lance was happiest spending time with his loving wife of 56 years, Joan and family especially his grandsons who knew him as “Pa”, or playing a round of golf at Henderson Lake Golf Club where Lance was a long time member until his many health issues forced him to put away his clubs. Lance was a true gentleman and will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes, easy smile, keen sense of humor, kind words and his favorite footwear, his cowboy boots.
Lance’s incredible attitude and unwavering determination in the face of pain and adversity are an example to us all. Lance’s family would like to thank Dr. Kilam, Dr. Dong, Dr. Wong, Dr. Forestell, Dr. Stroud, the staff of Access–A-Ride for faithfully getting Lance to dialysis these past 2 years, the staff at the Renal Clinic for their caring and professionalism, Lethbridge Home Care and Nurse Maureen, Dr. Burke, Dr. Cameron and the nursing staff of 4B, Dr. Shukoor and the compassionate staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care especially Celeste, Lidia and Mandy for making Lance so comfortable at the close.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405-12TH Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback, Celebrant. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers Lance’s family would appreciate a donation in Lance’s name to the St. Michael’s Foundation, 1400-9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.
