RANGER Kenneth
Posted: October 19th, 2012KENNETH RANGER of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of Roma, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in his 80th year. Kenneth was born on July 18, 1933 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan – the eldest son, and third child of John William Ranger and Mary Ebsworth (King) Ranger.
The family lived on the farm east of Town until Ken reached school age, then they moved into town and Ken took his schooling in Lloydminster. During his school years he was active in sports including hockey and track and field. Upon finishing school he worked in the oil fields, then in various car dealerships. In 1954 he married Roma Ruth Bach in Lloydminster, and after one year of marriage they moved to Hinton, Alberta where they both pursued careers in the new pulp mill being constructed at the time. Their four sons were born here and they enjoyed many years together with the boys – hiking, fishing and hunting in the beautiful Alberta foothills. Ken also took up the game of curling here and became quite proficient.
In 1964 he joined the LDS Church and was very active in it for the remainder of his life. He served as Branch President, Elder’s Quorum Presidency, High Priest Group Presidency, Young Men’s, and also a short time at the Genealogy Library.
In 1974 Ken moved his family to Devon, Alberta where they built a home on an acreage and Ken purchased his own backhoe which he contracted out for a number of years. During the 1980’s he went into carpentry work with his brother-in-law, building houses in the Devon and Leduc area. He also built greenhouses and he and Roma operated a large market garden and sold produce and plants for a number of years.
Upon retirement he sold his property and travelled with his wife for a number of years. They travelled extensively in Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Costa Rica and various other resort countries. In 1999 he and Roma moved to Lethbridge where they have resided since.
Ken is survived by his wife Roma; three sons: Gregory (Dawn) of Raymond, Mitchell (Sandra) of Spruce Grove, Bradley (Olivia) of Cardston; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Larry (Caroline) of Halifax and Raymond (Sarah) of Marshall, SK; four sisters: Dorothy (Ron) Donnelly of Keremeos, BC, Eileen Knight of New Westminster, BC, Alicia (Gerald) Welin of Vegreville, and Thelma (Walter) Butt of London, ON, and nine nieces and nephews.
Ken is predeceased by an infant son Grant Duane in 1959; infant sister Isabelle Margaret in 1941, and both parents.
