WICKSON Ryan

Posted: November 27th, 2012

WICKSON, RYAN WALTER – passed away peacefully, with his mom and dad at his side, on November 22 at 2:15am, after complications due to heart transplant surgery. Ryan was 33 years old. He was born on January 28, 1979 in the Bassano Hospital, and grew up in Bassano, graduating from the Bassano High School. Ryan recently completed His LPN program at the Lethbridge College and was looking forward to working in hospitals prior to being hospitalized this April. Ryan was a fun-loving, free-spirited guy who marched to the beat of his own drum. He loved a good golf game or a mean game of crib. He enjoyed visiting with friends of all ages and was very generous (especially with the help of his dad’s chequebook!) Ryan always saw the good in people and taught us all about kindness, thoughtfulness, and acceptance. Ryan is survived by his parents, Ron and Diane Wickson of Bassano; brother Jeremy (Denise) of Taber; sister Meighen (Dave) of St. John’s, Nfld; three cherished nieces: Payton and Sawyer Wickson, and Robin Cooney; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of life will take place in the Bassano Community Hall on Saturday, Dec 1 at 1pm. A memorial service will take place at the Lethbridge LDS Stake Centre on Thursday, Nov 29 at 2:00pm located at 2410 28th Street South in Lethbridge, Alberta (next to the Enmax Centre). All friends and family are welcome to attend both services. The family would like to extend a thank you to the many friends and relatives who have been so incredible and supportive to Ryan and his family during this 11-year journey. A special thanks to Jim and Gail, Payton and Sawyer, Tova, Jenn, Gill, and Jim and Joanne. The family would also like to recognize the amazing care from the staff of the Foothills Cardiac Unit and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton. In memory of Ryan, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Transplant Association, 11230 – 72nd Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 0B5

  2. Sylvia Besplug says:

On the behalf of everyone who had the pleasure of working with Ryan, we send our deepest sympathies. While Ryan was a care aide at Extendicare, he was the exemplification of CARE, … and compassion,… and gentleness. He inspired confidence in those whom he worked for and worked with. The residents’ faces would light up whenever he was there. The nursing world would have been blessed to have him as an LPN. We are so sad to hear of his passing.

  3. Eleanor Simpson says:

Our thoughts are with you at this time.
    Our deepest sympathy

I am very saddend to learn of Ryans passing. I spent a lot of time with him and Pete at foothills going to physio or to the bistro. I would call him Baby Blue he would call me the old guy. He was a special person. He would cheer us up and make us laugh with his sense of humor and we would try to keep him positive.
You should be very proud of your son, to meet a young man like Ryan I consider it my privilidge. I know many people feel the same way.
