LOWRY Horace
Posted: December 13th, 2012Vernon was born in Taylorville, Alberta, on May 1, 1926. He died on December 9, 2012, in Edmonton. He grew up on a farm in the Taylorville area, south of Cardston, Alberta. Vernon was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as a young man served as a missionary in New Zealand for 30 months. He attended the University of Alberta, where he obtained a Bachelor of Education degree, and where he met his wife, Donna. After teaching school for a few years, he returned to the U of A and obtained a Master of Education degree in reading, after which he served as a reading specialist and Supervisor of Language Arts for the Edmonton Public School Board, a position he held for nine years. He was later principal of Avonmore School. His senior years were spent in missionary work, at home, and especially in New Zealand again. He is survived by his wife, Donna, and eight children: Ruth Hyrve (Dale), John Lowry (Liza), Thomas Lowry (Renita), Orion Carrier, Vicki Motiuk, Bonnie Beaumier (Raymond), Lisa Lowry, and Ronald Lowry. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a kind, encouraging teacher and leader.
A visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311-91 Street, Edmonton on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9010-85 Street (Bonnie Doon Stake Center) on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
A second Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the East Stake Center, 338-5 Avenue East, Cardston, Alberta.
Interment will follow at the Taylorville Cemetery.
