DOROTHY ADA SCHILLING, beloved wife of the late Fred Schilling of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the age of 85 years.
She is the loving mother of Bonnie (Brian) Linderman of Blairmore. She is also survived by sisters Julie Lant and Lucy (Tony) Martino, brother; Rob (Denise) Amatto, sister-in-law Anne North and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Fred Schilling, parents Marietta & Frank Amatto, sisters, Katie Amatto, Clara (Bruno) Galicia, Eleanor (Joe) Sygutek, brothers, John Amatto, Rossi (Francis) Amatto, Roccy (Durlene) Amatto, Joe (Mel) Amatto, Don (Linda) Amatto, nephew Terry (Cheryl) Anctil, niece, Connie (Aaron) Lindgren.
Dorothy was born and raised in Blairmore. She met her husband Fred in 1949 after he returned from the Service. They married in 1950 and built their own home in South Blairmore, where they raised their only child, Bonnie. After living there happily for 59 years, Dot and Fred moved to The View in Lethbridge in 2007 where she made many wonderful friends and loved being involved in activities.
During her young, married life, Dot worked in sales at various clothing stores in the Crowsnest Pass. She had a great talent for matching clothing to people. This passion led to Dot’s Modern Fashions, a sucessfull ladies wear business that she ran for 20 years.
Dot was involved in many Crowsnest Pass organizations and clubs; the Figure Skating Club, Curling Club, Golf Club and Royal Purple. She also loved to help with the annual Fireman’s Tea. Cooking and entertaining family and friends gave Dot great pleasure. She was an accomplished chef whose meals were memorable and whose cooking knowledge was shared with everyone.
Despite many medical problems during the last ten years, her love of life and inner strength carried her through. For her family and friends, it will be hard to imagine a life without Dot in it, but we have so many memories of her wonderful, generous and beautiful character. She taught us so much.
Upon Dot’s request, there will not be a funeral service.
In memory of Dorothy Schilling, donations may be made to the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation, Blairmore, AB., T0K 0E0
