MATHESON Patricia
Posted: January 8th, 2013August 24, 1930 – December 23, 2012
Patricia Matheson (nee Maughan), beloved wife of Frank, passed away on December 23, 2012, with family at her side. Pat was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1930. On June 30, 1949 she married Frank and soon after started a family. They resided in Edmonton, Lethbridge, Fort MacLeod, Calgary, Billings Montana, Everett Washington and High River for the next 63 years. Pat was a full time mom for most of those years, hauling her children and, many times, those of her neighbours to baseball games, hockey games, football games, soccer games not to mention numerous band practices and dancing lessons. She was an adventurous type and many a Sunday afternoon would be spent traveling the back roads of southern Alberta, begun with the simple statement, “Come on kids, let’s go get lost!” She was a compassionate and caring woman who believed strongly in fair play and good sportsmanship. She inherited her passion for her family from her mother. She was a housewife, a mother and even a pee wee league baseball coach. She was gracious, always able to engage those around her and loved her family and friends dearly. She is once again back with her best friend Frank. Pat was predeceased by her husband Frank, her parents, Joseph and Helen Maughan, and by her brothers and sisters Annette, William, Joseph Jr., Marion, and John. She is survived by her children Don (Jenny), Gorde (Linda), Rod (Germaine), Bill, Franquie (Leigh Parkinson) and her grandchildren Heather, Dylan, Gordyn, Austyn, Murdoch, and Taylor. The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff at the High River Hospital, especially in the Emergency Department and the 3rd floor where Pat spent her last days. As well, we are truly blessed to have had Dr. Sarah Bell-Dingwall with us over the past year as her Family Doctor as well as Dr. James (Jim) Stone over the last several years as her Cardiologist. They are outstanding and compassionate doctors who took great care of both Mom and Dad. A Memorial Service will be held in High River in the spring. An announcement will be made at a later date. Interment will be at the Granum Cemetery following the Memorial Service. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the High River Hospital Foundation (560 – 9th Ave. SE, High River, AB, T1V 1B3).
