MARY (CHIAKI) SAWADA passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the age of 86 years at St. Michael’s Health Centre.
She is survived by her loving children, Richard (Lina Hempel), Marilyn (Ron Macartney), Kevin, and Allan; brothers, Duke (Aki), James (Daisy) and George (Grace); sister-in-law Julie (Mace – predeceased); grandchild, Tyler (Sylvia) with three great-grandchildren, Colton, Parker and Chloe.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Garry (Seiji) Sawada; mother and father Moto and Howa Oshiro; brothers, Scotty, Mace and Ted.
Born November 10, 1926 in Raymond, Alberta. Mary acquired her education there (from grade school through high school). She enjoyed telling her children of her past (growing up with her mother and father and six brothers; the hardships, the good times and bad times).
On December 11, 1954, Mary Married the love of her life, Garry Seiji Sawada and that 51-year-union lasted until Garry’s passing in 2005. Mary was a stay-at-home mother raising their four children and she went back to the work force after the youngest child began school, where she worked for Zellers from 1975 to 1986 when she retired.
Anyone who met Mary could tell she was a caring, gentle soul with an ever-ready smile, quick wit, a talent for organizing and planning and above all her love of laughter with family and friends.
Mom, your laughter, Kindness, gentleness and sweet disposition will be missed and never forgotten.
Special thanks to Dr. Hardin and all staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre for the wonderful care that Mom received for the last eight years.
Friends may meet the family on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Y. Izumi officiating.
