Posted: March 5th, 2013Robert “Red” Jerry Lemke
Robert Lemke of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Sheila Lemke, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the age of 72.
Red was born on December 24, 1940 in Fairview, Alberta to Emil and Alvina Lemke and grew up in Hines Creek where he attended school. Robert worked for Alberta Wheat Pool for many years in his early days where he met Sheila, and after starting their family, settled in the Lethbridge area where he started his own business in agriculture construction/ millwrighting.
Besides his loving wife Sheila, Red is survived by his two children, Cheryl (Ken) Robinson and Dwayne Lemke, grandchildren Jonathan, Christopher and Jillian, Brothers Henry (Olga), Norman, Leonard (Joanne), Dennis (Gail), and Alvin (Linda), Sisters Vi, Nona and Ruth, plus numerous extended family and friends.
Red was predeceased by his parents Emil and Alvina Lemke, brother Carl, sister Anita, and father-in-law, Wilfred Henkel.
Red will be remembered as a hard worker, always lending a helping hand. He was funny and often the “life” of the party. He enjoyed camping with friends and family, playing cribbage, chess and horseshoes. He spent endless hours watching his favorite Westerns.
Red’s family would especially like to thank the exceptional care staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital, ward 4A, doctors and nurses alike, plus the home care he received from Lethbridge Family Services over the past several months.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation on his behalf.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 4, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church located at 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd West, Lethbridge.
