SCOTNEY Fern

Fern Scotney of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Norman Scotney, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Friday, March 1st , 2013 at the age of 97 years.
Fern was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba to Frank and Mary Soder. She married Norman in Elkhorn where they farmed until 1934. They then moved to the Vulcan district and farmed for a number of years prior to moving into Vulcan where they operated a service station, farm machinery dealership and later a coffee shop as well. In 1962 they moved to Edmonton where Fern worked at Farrah’s Fashions and Norman began a new business. Later they moved to Hay Lakes and continued the business until Norman’s retirement in 1978. They enjoyed their retirement years in the Peace River area (Nampa) and Bowden. After the death of her husband, Fern moved to Kamloops and later to Lethbridge where she resided until her passing.
Fern cherished her family and the times they had together. She enjoyed gardening and would spend many hours in the yard caring for her shrubs and flowers.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Phyllis, grandson, Steven and five siblings. She is survived by her children – Reg (Elaine), Doug (Shirley), and Ren (Cheryl); 11 grandchildren – Leah (Wes), Lori (Don), Deanna (Norbert), Susan, Marcy (Pete), Troy, Shawn (Isabel), Bill (Sherri), Susan (Dan), Chris and Jeff; 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
At her request, there will not be a funeral service. There will be a family gathering at a later date in Peace River to share memories of her life.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation.
