HOWE Elaine

Elaine Joanne Howe, beloved wife of Ray Howe, passed quietly into the presence of Jesus on May 11, 2013 at the age of 76 years at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit, Lethbridge, Alberta.
Besides her beloved husband of 56 years, Elaine is survived by her son Greg (Fern) and daughter Leslie McCoy, granddaughter Amanda (Mitch) Lonnberg, grandsons Brett and Clay Howe, special friends Bret Seaton and Ellen Grundy, and great granddaughter Brier Lonnberg. Also surviving are her sister Claire Berglind, sister-in-law Bernice Toth and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Keith McCoy, parents Leslie and Hazel Johnston, parents-in-law Lester and Kathe Howe, brother-in-law Eric Toth and nieces Barby and Carolyn Toth.
Elaine was born on July 28, 1936 and raised in Eston, Saskatchewan. She completed her early school education in Eston where she excelled academically being named Valedictorian of her Grade 12 class and awarded the Governor General’s medal for academic excellence. She earned a BA in Secretarial Science degree at Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL in 1957, where she was listed on the Dean’s Honor roll.
She returned to the Eston community in 1960 where she and her husband, Ray, began a career in farming and raised their family. She was an active and effective participant in many volunteer organizations. Elaine was appointed to three consecutive terms on the Royal University Hospital Board in Saskatoon, SK. In 1987, she and Ray relocated to Regina where she continued her volunteer activities, travelled the world with Ray and participated in Rider Pride. They retired in 1997 and settled in Lethbridge which was her home until her passing.
Elaine was passionate about her family and supported them in all their endeavors. She also had a passion for serving the Lord and was privileged to do this in numerous settings, some of which included teaching Sunday School in a black suburb of Westside Chicago, leading Pioneer Girls Clubs in her local church, speaking at Christian Women’s Clubs throughout the prairie provinces and serving on missions teams ministering in Haiti.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Elaine’s life on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at University Drive Alliance Church, 55 Columbia Blvd West, Lethbridge Alberta.
Inurnment will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at the Eston Cemetery, Eston, Saskatchewan.
