GROSS William

OCTOBER 11, 1918 ~ NOVEMBER 28, 2013 William (Bill) Gross of Lethbridge passed away peacefully at St.

Therese Villas on November 28, at the age of 95 years, only three months after the passing of his loving wife of 68 years, Katherine Alberta Gross. Bill is survived by one daughter Terry Shannon of Lethbridge, granddaughter Erynn Shannon and her husband Szab Hajdu of Calgary, sister Irene Elle of Medicine Hat, brother Anton (Florence) of Kelowna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by two infant daughters, siblings John, Felix, Emily Lutz, Judy Johnson, Louise Danielson, Madeline McIntosh, Phyllis Smith, Mary Amstatter and son-in-law Norm Shannon. Bill was born in Grassy Lake, Alberta to Magdelina (Fettig) and Felix Gross. It was there he met his wife Katherine, who was teaching in the area. They settled in Grassy Lake, where they farmed for many years, maintaining residence in Lethbridge, and later retiring to Kelowna. Bill was an exceptionally hard worker, being very much a perfectionist in all his endeavors. He was active in the Lethbridge Curling Club, Flying Club and Alberta Flying Farmers. He enjoyed piloting his Cessna to the farm, to visit family across the province, and to various club events. Bill played the saxophone in several bands and received his ham radio license. He was an inventor of sorts. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t solve or a thing he couldn’t fix or build. He took pride in keeping a beautiful garden and many happy times were spent on camping trips, and gathering around the family dinner table. Thanks for always being there for us, Dad/Grandpa. We love you. A private family service will be held at a later date in Medicine Hat, with an interment to follow for both William and Katherine in Medicine Hat’s Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960 19th Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 1W5. Send condolences at www.mbfunerals.com.
