1940 – 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Joy Kirkham announces her passing on April 9, 2016 at St. Michaels palliative care unit at the age of 76. She will be sadly missed by her son Darcy (Susy) Marsden of Taber, daughter Wendy (Mike) Lyons of Holly Springs, NC, stepchildren Debbie Kirkham, Garry (Debbie) Kirkham, LeeAnn (Wes) Wright and grandchildren Trevor, Bradley, Shannon, Matthew, Nathan, Emma, Logan and Tessa; two brothers William Golia and Michael (Beth) Golia of Lethbridge; very special Aunt Helen Coyle, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was born in Lethbridge to the late Anne and Michael Golia. She won the first Ms. Wilson title at Wilson Junior High in 1954 and played basketball with the 1956 provincial Champion LCI Clipper Queens. Joyce was an accomplished bowler who won many awards and continued to enjoy playing in a weekly league until last year. This past August she was able to bowl and WIN one more time while playing with the grandkids. Joyce dearly loved her family and this extended to the family of her first husband Robert (Bob) Marsden (deceased). After being single for a while, she met Gary Kirkham and they were married New Years Eve, 1978 in Las Vegas. She continued her love of his family too after he died in 1988 and she was so grateful for the relationship she had with them. Joyce then went to work for SMRID where she stayed until retiring. Joyce was a wonderful cook who hosted most big family dinners which were always followed by several games of cards. She loved visits with her grandchildren, gardening, watching the Flames and Stampeders and having lunch at the casino while playing just $20. Joyce always had a circle of friends that created fun memories and also supported her and the family at the end of her life. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and we smile knowing she is once again with her dearly loved mom Anne. I Love you. At Joyces request, no formal funeral will be held as she wanted a get together for family and friends. Please join us for a luncheon on Saturday April 30, 2016, 12:30PM – 2:30PM at the EAGLES HALL, 631- 13. St. N, Lethbridge, AB. A Private Family Interment will be held prior to the lunch. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to a charity of your choice. Those we love are never really lost to us – For everywhere their special love lives on.
