Ralph was born 28 April, 1940 in Raymond, Alberta son of Delbert and Dora Oler. He loved Basketball and was a true “Comet”. After High School he served a mission for his church in California. Upon his return he married Kathy Mulholland of Claresholm in the Cardston Alberta Temple April 17, 1963. They spent the next four years in Toronto where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree, and returned to practice Optometry in Lethbridge for 43 years, with offices in Lethbridge and Blairmore. Ralph had many interests through the years – camping, fishing, woodworking, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting, but his total favorite was Smallbore and High Power rifle shooting. He won many Provincial and National Championships throughout Canada and the US. Ralph was proud to shoot a National NRA record in Pennsylvania. He served as President of the Alberta Metallic Silhouette Association for many years, Member of the NRA and Silhouette Rifle Association of Canada. Ralph was always ready to help with anything and anyone at the shooting range, and happy to share his knowledge and experiences of shooting with family and friends.
In his 78 years Ralph served in many church callings – Teacher, Bishop, High Councilor, Stake Clerk, Ward Clerk, Temple ordinance worker, and many others – always ready to serve and share his knowledge of the gospel. He had a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and a pleasant personality. He was a friend to all and a judge of no one. Honesty and integrity were only a few of his wonderful qualities. Eleven years ago in December he survived a major heart attack, and was a two year colon cancer survivor. These last two years have been a tremendous struggle for him. He has fought a good fight and will now have the peace and health he so desired. Our family has been so blessed to have him in our lives, and hope to live to make him proud of the eternal legacy he leaves.
