MRS. FLORENCE HARTMAN, of Coaldale, beloved wife of the late Mr. Philip Hartman, passed away peacefully at the Sunny South Lodge on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the age of 83 years. She will now join Dad in Heaven – Together Again.

Florence will be sadly missed by her children Raymond (Sandy) Hartman, Donald (Valerie) Hartman, Laura (Ilo) Anderson, Debbie (Derek) Martin, Kathy (Alan) Sparks, Brenda (Gordon) Shimbashi and Shirley (David) Novak; her siblings Shirley Gwilliam, Peggy Tetarenko, Arthur (Sharon) Ransom, Gerald Ransom and Geraldine Schmidt, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Philip Hartman, sister Louise Fettes, brothers-in-law Lyle Fettes, Frank Schmidt, Ron Tetarenko and Fred Gwilliam and sister-in-law Carol Ransom.

Florence was born on September 12, 1934 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. As a child, she attended school in Coronach, SK. At the age of 13, she left school to help support her family through the Great Depression, shoveling grain into railroad cars alongside her father. In 1952, she married Philip Hartman and together they raised seven children on a farm near Tisdale, SK. In 1967, they settled in Southern Alberta, as her husband had changed careers.

Florence will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and avid knitter, baker and gardener. Of all her hobbies, gardening was her passion. There wasn’t a flower that she couldn’t grow! Many neighbours would look with awe at Florence’s incredible flower gardens.
