1933 – 2018
Mrs. Barbara Hillmer of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Norman Hillmer, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Barbara was born in 1933 in Lethbridge Alberta. She was the first child of Jim & Frances Fellger. They lived in Del Bonita where she started school before moving to the family farm in Magrath. Barbara continued school in the one room Farmhill schoolhouse. She completed high school in Magrath as the valedictorian of her class and started nurses training in Lethbridge. She married Norman Hillmer in 1954 and they had a son Ken and daughter Debbie. Barbara took great pride in her family, her home and especially her yard. Vacation destinations were almost always planned around the fruit seasons, so she could do her yearly canning. Even though she had a full-time job taking care of her family and home she still worked outside the home. Barbara enjoyed working with Welcome Wagon when they lived in Lethbridge, with the Magrath Trading Company after the move to Magrath in 1968 and then with the Bank of Montreal for many years before finally retiring in 1995. Many large family gatherings were held at her house where we all enjoyed her amazing cooking skills and made lasting memories. Barbara was predeceased by her son Ken, both her parents, Jim & Frances Fellger and her three siblings, Charles Fellger, Marlene Paul and Carolyn Neilson. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 64 years, Norman, her daughter Debbie, her grandsons Ken & Kurtis, granddaughter in law Julie and her great-grandchildren Jace, Colton & Izabella. Barbara taught her loved ones the importance of family as well as a strong work ethic. She will be forever loved, dearly missed, and always in our hearts. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH – 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West.
