1921- 2019
Lilly Jorgenson (Hemmaway) entered the world to her parents Jane and Richard Hemmaway on October 25, 1921 and left peacefully on March 11, 2019, in the arms of God. Lilly was born and raised on a family homestead in Barons Alberta where she lived until she faithfully married her late husband, Lawrence Jorgenson in July 1942. She remained in Southern Alberta for her lifetime where she grew her family. Lilly is survived by her dear children Martin Jorgenson, Audrey Feltham, Marlene Petersen, and Corinne Jorgenson. Lilly was able to be blessed with four generations of love with her seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who carry out her legacy of loving Christianity. Lilly was a woman of deep faith. Lawrence and Lilly were founding members of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in 1957, working hard to build a Lutheran community for generations to build upon. Her devotion to faith carried her into great prosperity among her Christian community. She assisted in bake sales, garage sales, cooked hot meals, and arranged sandwiches for elderly veterans at nursing homes and volunteer at the soup kitchen as well. Lilly gave back to her community throughout her entire life such as selling Daffodil’s for the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of her beloved Lawrence. Lilly brought her dedication to help others to many organizations as she was a loyal member of The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Army, Navy, & Air Force Veterans in Canada which she was an active member for over 30 years. In her retired years, Lilly spent her time with friends at Westminster Crib Club. Lilly’s favourite pastimes included playing crib, reading, baking, knitting, sewing, gardening, completing jig-saw puzzles and word-finds. Family and friends are welcomed to pay their respects with a viewing arranged from 11:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. To Audrey, Corrine, Martin and Marlene and family,
Sincere sympathy from our family to your big extended family. ‘Mom Jorgenson’ was a very special woman. She always made me feel warmly welcomed from the time Oddie and I first became friends…..way back in our Hamilton Junior High days.
She leaves behind a large legacy in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Always remember the Jobgenson family, spent lots of time with Martin and Audrey in the years we lived in Barons, My sister Audrey and I remember the last folks we visited before moving to the coast were the Jorgensons. My Mother Geraldine Sturgeon passed just a few weeks later in April 2019. Our Condolences to the family, hope to see you all again, stay Well;
