GARRY NICHOLAS PONECH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved father, Poppa, brother, uncle, and friend Garry Ponech, on June 13, 2019, at the age of 78, in Calgary. He will forever be held in the hearts and memories of his daughters Lyndsay Zoratti (Brett) and Carla Quesnel (Rob), and son Jeff Ponech; his grandchildren Jenny Zoratti (Nicholas), Courtney Quesnel, Garrett Zoratti, and Emmett Zoratti; his sister Carole Colwill (Les) and nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends. Garry was predeceased by his beloved wife Karen, as well as his mother Zena and his father Nicholas. Garry was born in Lethbridge, Alta., on Nov. 10, 1940. A country boy by nature, Garry had a lifelong passion for sports, fishing, camping, hunting (particularly with his cherished German pointer Sarge), and enjoying the great outdoors — from the vistas of the Rocky Mountains to the Echo Bay, Ont., cottage he built from logs that became a haven for his family for more than three decades. His passion led him to work with Ducks Unlimited. A career with Dow Chemical brought his young family to Winnipeg in the 1960s, and later to Sarnia, Ont. Later in his life, he returned to Alberta. A celebration of life with immediate family will take place at Echo Bay. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or cancer research organization of your choice.
