Marie Haig

1933 – 2019

Marie passed away peacefully at home in Stony Plain, Alberta on November 2, 2019. She is survived by her loving daughters, Joanne (Ed) and Jennifer and son, Tom (Laurent); grandchildren, Aaron, Vanessa (Ryan), Justin (Vanessa), Garrett, Julie (Adam) and Michael (Alyssa); great grandchildren Maïsha; Jovyn; Soleia; Kyver; Layla, Harper, and Declan; as well as sisters Dorothy (Jack) and Rosalind (Bill); several sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Marie was devoted to her late husband (Dr. T. H. Brian) and family. She also enjoyed numerous activities with friends, was an avid golfer and birdwatcher, and supported many charitable causes. She grew up in Lethbridge and received her training as a laboratory technician at the North West Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. Following Brian’s graduation from medical school, they spent several years in Montreal where she worked at the Montreal General Hospital prior to having children. After a short period in Lethbridge, she and Brian relocated to Saskatoon where they raised their family. Active participation in social and community activities were important to her and Brian during their many years in Saskatoon and they maintained close ties with fellow faculty members and spouses from the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan following Brian’s retirement in 2000. She will be dearly remembered as a caring person with a sunny personality and great generosity of spirit. A family memorial is being held in Stony Plain on Saturday, November 9.
