NEMECEK

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, Teresa passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 98 years.

Teresa was born in Velcice, Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada with her mother and sisters when she was 15. The family settled in the Picture Butte area, where her father was already waiting. Teresa married Paul Nemecek on February 7, 1938, and they farmed east of Picture Butte. Teresa’s life on the farm was one of hard work. From hoeing sugar beets to having a huge garden, she still found time to cook, bake and spend time with her family. Paul and Teresa retired from the farm and moved to Lethbridge in 1972, where she continued to grow a big garden in her backyard.

After Paul’s passing in 1975, Teresa remained in their home and enjoyed travelling with her sisters and friends. Until the age of 90, Teresa continued to drive, tend to a big garden and make cabbage and poppy-seed rolls. In 2012, she decided to move to Blackrock Terrace where she resided until her passing.

Teresa is survived by her son Vinko and daughter-in-law Gloria(Sosick); three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Darin and Andrea (Neely, Cohen, Chloe), Brent and Laurinda (Olivia, Sawyer, Emily) and Nicole and Darren (Finley, Calla). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Teresa was predeceased by her parents Tom and Gladys Hanzlik, husband Paul and granddaughter Danielle. She was also predeceased by sisters Annie(Eugene), Mary(Pete), Katy(Bill) and Destiny, and brother-in-law Martin(Betty).

The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to all the staff at Blackrock Terrace and 4C Chinook Regional Hospital, as well as to Dr.Kizuk, Dr.Grant and Dr.Walton.

Gratitude is also extended to Teresa’s special friend, Nadya Wasilenko.

A celebration of Teresa’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Trinity United Church in Picture Butte at 2:00pm with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating. A private family interment will precede the celebration of Teresa’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be paid to a charity of your choice.
