Fred Myers of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Irene Myers, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 95 years of age. Fred was born and raised in Ottawa to John and Elizabeth Myers. He quickly developed a passion for sports. which never left him. At 17 years of age, he joined the Navy, proudly serving his country on the Atlantic convoys for the duration of the war. It was there he learned to cuss and drink. Returning to Ottawa, he married the girl of his dreams and joined the National Film Board, serving as a senior manager for 35 years. His love of sports continued, coaching a number of successful hockey and football teams at the community level. He also developed a passion for golf, which continued into his 90’s. Fred was a dedicated fan of Ottawa sports team and a diehard believer in the Ottawa Senators. His interests were many and varied. He was a very good bridge player, loved puzzles, music and entertainment. He served on many boards and associations right into his 80’s. He touched many and will be fondly remembered by the staffs of Humptys, Draffins Pharmacy and especially his golf and coffee buddies. Fred is survived by his sister Lillian of Kansas; daughter Pat (Wayne) of Lethbridge; granddaughters Tara, Holly (Cameron), Kathleen (Dan), Ella (Brady), Alli, Lindsay (Jason) and Jody (David); great-grandchildren Ethan, Leah, Katelyn and Makena, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his loving wife of 68 years, Fred was predeceased by his parents; brother Alex; sisters Beth and Dorothy; son Frank; daughter Barb and granddaughter Tammy. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Inurnment with his loving wife Irene will take place in Ottawa.
