LORETTA “JEANNE” SMITH
April 28, 1929 – April 5, 2020
“Death leaves a heartache,

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our Mom, our friend and our mentor, Loretta “Jeanne” Smith. She passed away peacefully April 5, 2020 at the Edith Cavell Care Centre just shy of her 91st birthday.
Jeanne will be lovingly remembered by her children Greg (Gloria) Smith, Linda (Kim) Jensen and Barbara (Bill) Hensel; grandsons Justin (Kendra) Jensen and Travis (Shelley) Jensen; great granddaughters McKenzie, Kadence, Aaliyah and Jaxynne Jensen.
She was predeceased by her parents Isaac and Mae Kitchen, sister Ruth Walker and brother Lloyd (Helen – deceased) Kitchen.
Jeanne grew up in Raymond with a large circle of friends. Once married, she moved to a farm close to Lethbridge where she had many happy memories raising her children. After farm work was done, there was never a dull moment as she ensured all of her children were introduced to the arts, reading and adventure. Whether it was piano lessons, dance, riding lessons, swimming, skiing or a trip to the library or mountains, the family car was always on the go. Jeanne had a great love for all animals and a special bond with her dogs, Scampy, Cindy and Chico.
Later in life Jeanne went back to school and proudly earned her degree as a Pharmacy Technician. She pursued her new career in a hospital setting starting in Calgary, then relocating to the BC coast. Eventually she retired at a beautiful complex in Maple Ridge, BC. Jeanne loved the mild climate and spent her days on the golf course, swimming daily and traveling. She made a new circle of friends and always kept her family close.
As time went on, Jeanne returned to Lethbridge and eventually moved into the Edith Cavell Centre for the loving care she needed. The family extends gratitude to the staff of Edith Cavell and to Dr. Greidanus for his guidance and compassion.
A Private Family Celebration will be held at a later date. The family asks in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jeanne’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, your local Humane Society or show an act of kindness to someone in need during these difficult times.
