Lino Chiste

1929 – 2020

Mr. Lino Chiste of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Irene Chiste, passed away peacefully at the West Highlands Good Samaritan Lodge on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the age of 90 years.
Lino was born on September 7, 1929 in Lasino, Italy – near the city of Trento. After serving in the Italian Army, Lino moved to Lethbridge in 1952 and began working in the #8 coal mine in West Lethbridge. He was later employed with various hardware stores in Lethbridge before joining Revelstoke Building Supplies where he stayed until his retirement.
He married Irene Lazaruk in May of 1969 and lived on 7th Avenue North until moving into a home just North of 9th Avenue North, East of 13th Street. They resided there until Irene passed away in February of 2014 and Lino’s declining health forced him into moving into Age Care Columbia shortly after. His need for more care resulted in him moving into West Highlands in 2016 where he resided until his death.
Lino is survived by nephews, Glenn (Wendy) Wyrostok, Geoffrey Wyrostok, Greg (Barb) Lazaruk, Larry (Margaret) Lazaruk and Pat (Millie) Tarrant, all of Lethbridge; close cousins, Marie Chiste and family, and Greg Gibson and family, both of Lethbridge. Lino is also survived by many relatives still living in Italy. Also surviving is sister in law Velma LeGrandeur and many great, and great great nieces and nephews.
As well as his wife Irene, Lino was pre-deceased by his father, Mansueto; his mother, Maria; his sister, Clementina; and his brother Adriano. He was also predeceased by Irene’s parents, Mike and Annie Lazaruk; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Wyrostok and Lillian Soice; his brothers-in law, Peter Lazaruk and George Wyrostok; cousins, Lillian Gibson, Mary Berube, Joe Chiste, and Bruno Chiste; niece, Linda Westling; nephew and niece Garry and Margaret Wyrostok, and nephew Michael Tarrant.
Due to the restrictions in place for the Corona virus, a private Funeral Mass will be held at St Martha’s Catholic Church.
