O’DONNELL, Terrence
Posted: June 30th, 2020TERRENCE JOSEPH O’DONNELL, beloved husband of Susan, passed away at Piyami Place on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the age of 75 years.
Besides his loving wife, Terry is survived by his daughter, Tara (Darren) Van Zeggelaar; his sons, Michael (Cheralan) and Bradley; his six wonderful grandchildren, Connor, Isabella, Mikalan, Riley, Maizy and Olive; his sister, Patricia (Jack) Whimster, and his sisters-in-law, Cheryl O’Donnell and Rose Gray.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma and Fred, and his two brothers, Jim and Dennis.
Terry was born in Taber and raised in Picture Butte. He devoted 35 years of his life to teaching, and it was more than just a profession to him—it was how he lived his life. He had a passion for both coaching and playing sports, golfing almost every day and coaching his children and the community in nearly every sport. In his later years, he loved watching his grandchildren play, and still often “coached” from the stands.
Terry’s faith was the foundation for his life. He was a devout Catholic, attending St. Catherine’s Parish his entire life. After retiring from teaching, he continued to devote his life to education through his elected position as a trustee for the Holy Spirit School Board, and served the community with the Knights of Columbus with his position as a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family during a Prayer Service held at ST. CATHERINE’S CHURCH, 762 Crescent Ave., Picture Butte, AB on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 7:00 PM, with a Viewing to begin at 6:30 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. CATHERINE’S CHURCH on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
Both the Prayer Service and the Funeral Mass will be livestreamed and made available to watch via Terry’s online obituary. On behalf of St. Michael’s School in Bow Island, I would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to your family. We always enjoyed it when Terry would come to the school for a function. He was always down to earth and good for a laugh or two. He remembered his roots and as a late addition to the Holy Spirit family always made our school feel welcome. Prayers to you and your family.
Taught me in grade 10 Phys Ed in Coaldale. Was a great teacher as I still remember him this almost 50 years later. Condolences to his wife and family
Thinking of you all. He was a tough cuss – or at least he liked to pretend. I have a lot of great memories of him as a teacher, coach and role model.
