CHANGE OF SERVICE
With heavy hearts we mourn the passing of Gordon Willard Jacobs. A beloved father, son, brother, and husband. Gord died suddenly at home on Sunday August 9th. Gord is survived by his wife Joan Jacobs as well as his sons Barry (Cathy), Jason (Kim), Michael (Pamela) and David (Jennifer), along with eleven treasured grandchildren. Gord was a proud graduate of BYU. He was married to Gayla Christensen of Raymond, Alberta in the Cardston Temple in 1960. They went on to live in Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, and Toronto, forming close friendships and bonds with their fellow Latter-Day Saints wherever they went. Gord and Gayla shared southern Alberta energy and warmth with everyone they knew. Upon their return to southern Alberta, they lived in Welling for several years before Gayla’s passing in August 2005. Over the last nine years, Gord also became a member of the extended McGrath/Jones family. He was a fun-loving and doting grandfather to all. Gord was known for humour, energy, and passion for sports, whether in his career in marketing and sales, or in his second career in auto parts. He relished meeting people and being out and active. Smiles, good conversation, and positive feelings just materialized once Gord arrived on the scene. We will cherish his memory. Gord’s second home was the Magrath public golf course and he is perhaps one of the few golfers known to have made four holes-in-one. Gord was predeceased by his parents, Henry Chariton Jacobs, and Thelma Burnham, as well as his sister Rosemarie (Dan) Ellis. He is survived by his sister Joyce (Don) Salmon, of Edmonton, and Barbara (Watson) Ririe, of Magrath. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, East Stake Centre, 4105 Forestry Avenue, Lethbridge. Friends may meet the family on Saturday August 15th from 10:00 to 10:45 am, including a reception line. A closed memorial service will then be held at 11:00 am. Seating is limited to family, with limited extra seating available until we reach the seating capacity. A reminder that all who attend will need to wear a mask and observe social distancing.
