MERRILL, Milton
Posted: August 26th, 2020MILTON MARK MERRILL, beloved husband of the late Rachael Lenz Merrill of Hill Spring, passed away on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 at the age of 86 years.
Mark is the last of 9 siblings and survived by his children, Mitch (Karen) Merrill, Deanne (Dave) Schaffer, Suzanne (Dave) Stepan, Lisa (Lanark) Duce, Wes (Wendy) Merrill, 20 grandchildren & 21 great grandchildren.
He was known as the strong silent type – a gentle cowboy. His priorities were family – cattle – horses and sports. He was known as dead eye for his prowess of shooting a basketball – so talented athletically. Mark loved to compete, loved his teammates, loved to travel with them and the hamburgers and milkshakes after the game. He was also a pioneer in developing Black Angus cattle in the area. Most important he loved his family. He was the best – DAD- Grandpa – husband – friend – to us all. Not a day will go by that we won’t miss our DAD.
Friends may meet the family at Legacy Funeral Home on Thursday, August 27th, from 7:00-8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Oyster Shell Swim Hole – on the Belly River, Hill Spring, Alberta on Friday, August 28th, at 11:00 am., with Bishop Jim Woolf officiating. Those who wish to attend are welcome – Social distancing.

To uncle Mark’s family,
My deepest sympathies to you all on the devastating loss of your dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He will be surely missed. I’ll always remember the time Patsy and I spent at your place when we were kids, seems like a lifetime ago. I think that’s where I fell in love with cattle. Now I live on a cattle farm of our own. Uncle Mark to me was always my uncle the cowboy!
I send you loving prayers to each of you!
God Bless ❤️
With heartfelt sorrow,
your cousin Sherry (Ray& Joy Pederson daughter)
He was a great example to us in the cattle industry. He new how to work and lead out. I still picture him standing on
The beach in Hawaii in shorts and cowboy boots!

That is a beautiful tribute. I send my deepest condolences to the whole family.
So sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man. My brother played basketball against him and said he was quite the player. My second oldest brother was on a mission with him in Sourh Africa.
Our hearts ache for your loss of such a dear man. Jim loved having him as his home teaching companion. He was always so kind. I imagine his arrival in heaven was extremely joyous! He loved his sweetheart Rachel so much! Bittersweet……
We are so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of your family. I loved how your dad cared and loved your mom. He was a quiet, gentle man who worked hard.
