SAITO

GEORGE SHOJI SAITO passed away peacefully early in the morning on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the age of 93 years.

George was born in Victoria, BC and was the oldest son of Kozabura and Haru. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Thelma, his son, Jeff (Miki) and their daughters, Amber and Jenna.

George grew up in BC, and at very early age learned how to fish and what hard work was. He ended up moving to Southern Alberta where he worked doing sugar beets while attending school. During this time, he participated in many sports, including baseball and basketball, which was his favorite.

After finishing school, George joined the Air Force and was honourably discharged in 1952 as an Air Force Cadet. His outgoing personality and sense of humor led him to pursue a career in sales, eventually owning his own office furniture and stationary business. It was during this period, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma, in 1962. Jeff joined the family in 1968 and quickly became his pride and joy, teaching his son the many skills he learned throughout his life. He was also able to enjoy many family trips especially the annual trips to Mountain Shores resort on Kootenay Lake, which included another best friend, Sparki.

Later in his life, he eventually retired from work, but continued golfing with many of his good friends that he acquired along his journey through life. He loved to pass on his history telling many stories about his adventures back in BC and while in the Air Force. In the last few years of his life, he remained happy and at home under the loving care of his wife. He will be forever loved, missed and remembered by his surviving family.

A private family funeral service will be held, Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers and koden, a donation be made to the Alzheimer Society.
