GARNER, Alfred
Posted: July 17th, 2021Alfred Vernon Garner passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, after a short illness and a long life. He was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on August 31, 1929, the youngest child of Arthur Joseph Garner and Elda Temple Nielson. He married Donna Rae Selman on May 28,1952 in the Cardston, Alberta temple. They had four sons and one daughter. Vernon passed on a love of adventure and the outdoors, a gift for storytelling, and a devotion to hard work. Vernon took over the family fuel business his father started, Garner’s Fuel, and it became a favorite meeting place for friends.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to the Southern States (US) and with Donna, a stake mission to Milk River and Cabanatuan, Philippines.
Donna died in 2007. After her passing, he married Edna Rasmussun Call, who died in 2011.
He is predeceased by his siblings; Eldon, Reva Heggie, Thora Adamson, Adrienne Bishop, his son; Randall Garner, and his grandson; Jessie Jessop. He is survived by his sister; Gladys (Bob Shipton), sons; Darrel (Lori), Doug, Glen (April), and daughter; Wendy Jessop, 12 grandchildren; Cameron, Russel (Crystal), Brandon (Heidi), Lori Anne (Rick), Amy (Levi), Kelsey (Steve), Keaton, Parker (Rachelle), Taylor, Ryan, and Clayton, and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Viewing and Meet the Family will be held on July 20, 2021, at the Raymond Stake Centre from 7PM – 8PM. The Funeral Service will be held at the Raymond Stake Centre on July 21, 2021, at 11AM. Interment will be in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond Alberta.
